There was a good turnout for Carsphairn SWI meeting held on Thursday 17th October in Lagwyne Hall, Carsphairn.

September 19th saw members of Carsphairn SWI get together for their first meeting after the summer break. There was lots to catch up on and discuss.

Carsphairn held their annual community market on Saturday 7th in Lagwyne Hall, as part of the Glenkens Food month, which runs throughout the month of September.

The Carsphairn children’s group, Bairn Banter have had a very productive and hands on learning experience focusing on producing their own food for free.

Dumfries & Galloway hosts a significant proportion of the United Kingdom’s commercial woodland creation schemes. With discussion ongoing on the national stage regarding land use change, the ‘Woodlands Plus’ project aims to add local value - employment, biodiversity or public access - to three forestry sites in the region.

Families from across the Glenkens and beyond continue to come together and join in the fun filled sessions provided by Bairn Banter in Carsphairn.

Carsphairn held their inaugural Eden Project Communities Scotland Big Lunch on Sunday 2nd June 2024.

Melissa introduced Irene McCreath who along with her daughter Naomi had brought along four very special visitors. Members were invited to go outside where they were introduced to Fleur, Alex, Penelope and George.

The Social Group has collated all the recipes into a booklet and they are on sale in the Carsphairn Tearooms and the Heritage Centre at a cost £5, the proceeds going to The Community Larder & Food Bank Charity at Stepping Stones in Castle Douglas.

Sam Rushton visited Carsphairn SWI and introduced the group to inclusive musical exercises.

Children of Carsphairn and the wider Glenkens enjoyed an egg-citing Easter fun day in Carsphairn on Saturday 30th March.

The gathering took a different format this month as all members provided baking to be tasted and brought the recipe along.

Dorothy introduced Bruce Haggerty who is a vet with the Stewartry Veterinary Centre in Castle Douglas. Bruce told members and friends about his journey towards and within his life as a vet.

Twenty-eight year old soldier Beth Duggleby was presented with an MBE by the King for operational services in the field during an investiture at Windsor Castle.

Carsphairn Community Council organised a festive meal for the senior members of the community in the Lagwyne Hall in December.

Scottish Women's Institute (SWI) member Margaret Brown of Carsphairn has been presented with the organisation's Loyalty Award by Mary Burney, the SWI's national president.

President, Dorothy Faulds welcomed everyone to the first Carsphairn SWI meeting of 2024 on 25th January. There was a lot to share and discuss throughout the evening.

Carsphairn SWI members and friends met on 7th December to celebrate the Season and Isobel Cuthbertson with a certificate for loyal service.

Children from all around the Glenkens joined the Carsphairn based children's group Bairn Banter for a haunting Halloween party in Lagwyne Hall on Saturday 28th November.
