AGM roundup at Carsphairn SWI

Dorothy Faulds, President welcomed everyone to the 2024 AGM. Apologies were shared and the minutes from the 2023 AGM (16/11/23) were agreed upon and signed. Christine Whipp shared a presentation containing photographs from meetings and events throughout the year. There were lots of laughs as everyone was reminded of a busy year.

Dorothy then went on to thank everyone. She then emphasised how the Rural at Carsphairn is the sum of its parts and that everyone coming together to have fun and share skills is so important. Treasurer, Nancy White shared a written copy of the accounts for the year and answered any questions. It was agreed it had been a good year financially and the group had been well supported by funds. Dorothy thanked Nancy and Christine for their valuable input.

Upcoming events were discussed and plans refined which included the SWI Federation Quiz, the Carsphairn SWI Christmas Outing and the Ruralympics in February 2025. Although plans had been made to help each other make festive wreaths, time and weather dictated that this be added to next year’s syllabus.

Lavinia Morris kindly presented the trophies for the year. The Kellie Cup for most points was awarded to Nancy White. The Watret Trophy for Bunch of Daffodils was awarded to Nancy White. The Rose Bowl for Savoury Muffin was awarded to Sheila Little and the Cuthbertson Salver for most points in Flower of the Month was shared between Susie Seed and Nancy White. The prize for most entries was won by Nancy White. Well done Nancy!

In order to facilitate the election of the 2025 committee, Sylvia Sinclair, a long standing and valued friend of Carsphairn SWI counted the votes and the six members on the committee are Melissa Ade, Dorothy Faulds, Irene McCreath, Betty Peacock, Christine Whipp and Nancy White. The committee met to agree office bearers which are as follows:- President, Melissa Ade, Vice President, Dorothy Faulds, Treasurer, Nancy White, Secretary, Christine Whipp. It was agreed that the committee will meet on December 16th 2024 to compile the new syllabus.

Dorothy had made the traditional Carsphairn SWI birthday cake. Nancy cut the cake as Fergus the bear looked on and everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’. Refreshments were provided by the committee and everyone enjoyed a good catch up while sampling savoury and sweet treats. The raffle was drawn and Dorothy thanked everyone for their contribution to the evening and throughout the year.

Yet again Carsphairn SWI has enjoyed a year of action, learning and most of all friendship and fun. One and all helped to tidy up and headed for home slowly and carefully to account for the icy and snowy conditions.
