D&G Climate Hub announces Climate Ready Communities Fund
The D&G Climate Hub, hosted by the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere Partnership and part of the Scottish Government’s national network of community climate hubs, has launched a new funding programme which offers local charities and constituted groups up to £15,000 to support projects that help achieve climate resilience in Dumfries & Galloway.
The D&G Climate Hub will select four community-based applicants who can demonstrate that they are committed to becoming ‘climate ready’. Climate Hub Officers will work with these communities to create an action plan, and will provide technical support, local and national networking opportunities, and advice on accessing future funding sources.
Dumfries & Galloway’s Climate Hub has already benefited more than 78 local communities, charities and volunteer groups through its seed funding programme, which has supported a wide range of climate adaptation activity ranging from repair-and-recycle initiatives to litter picking, pop-up shops, energy saving and community food projects. It has delivered over sixty climate learning sessions in D&G schools, and supported more than eighty local residents to gain Carbon Literacy certification.
The Scottish Government recently announced £6 million in funding for Scotland’s Climate Hub network, which is designed to empower locally-led action on climate change and resilience, encouraging targeted adaptations unique to each local authority area. Within this package, D&G Climate Hub has been awarded just over £212,000 to continue its work through 2026/27.
Senga Greenwood, D&G Climate Hub Lead Officer, says:
“We are delighted that the achievements of Dumfries & Galloway’s communities have been recognised by the continuation of Scottish Government funding, which will help us reach even more groups and organisations through 2026/27. The Climate Ready Communities Fund represents offers huge potential for local communities to action aspirational projects which have had to wait for substantial funding, and we’re very excited to see how these develop in the coming months. As always, our local communities will have the support not only of Climate Hub Officers but the wider team from the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere Partnership, and we hope our ethos of participation and collaboration will help create some truly exemplary climate projects for our region.”
Applications for the Climate Ready Communities Fund are open now until Monday 27th April 2026. For more information please visit: http://www.gsabiosphere.org.uk/what-we-do/dg-climate-hub/climate-ready-communities-fund/ or email: senga@gsabiosphere.org.uk.
