How healthy are our waterways across the Glenkens? Take part in a citizen science activity to find out for yourself!

The Big River Watch is a national campaign to gather information about the health of waterways across the entire UK, run by The Rivers Trust.

Citizen Science River Watch

This year, the Big River Watch takes place from 24th - 30th April, and those who would like to take part only need to spend 15 minutes watching the river, as well as (optionally) testing the water quality for nitrate and phosphate levels. The Glenkens has so far not submitted any data to this survey, so this is an opportunity to fill that gap!

Thursday 23rd April, 7pm - Dalry Town Hall

Collect a free water testing kit and instructions on how to use it - and watch a free screening of Riverwoods, an inspiring documentary featuring Scotland's wonderful landscapes and wildlife, and explaining the links between forestry and river health. Please book via this link - booking is free of charge, but is required to ensure that we have enough kits to distribute at the event.

Sunday 26th April, 10am - 3pm - Carsphairn Community Woodland

Join the Carsphairn Community Woodland volunteer day to help gather data on the waterways adjoining the Community Woodland. Light refreshments provided, and colouring activities for children will also be available. Full details here.

Both events are free to attend, and open to people of all ages.

Check the online dashboard to find out more about the type of data which has already been submitted to The Big River Watch: https://theriverstrust.org/big-river-watch-data-dashboard
