Games night at Carsphairn SWI
President, Irene McCreath welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2026.
Margaret Brown
Irene reminded everyone that today had been Margaret Brown’s funeral. Margaret was an honorary and much valued member of Carsphairn SWI. Reminiscences were shared and Irene passed round a photo of Margaret and Susie on an outing to Port Logan Botanic Gardens. These brought smiles all round.
The syllabus for 2026 was shared containing details of planned speakers and members’ competitions. The business of the evening was then addressed. This included preparations for the Stewartry Federation Ruralympics on 14th February 2026 and The Federation Spring show taking place in March. Carsphairn SWI is also entering a team in the Stewartry SWI Short Mat Bowling competition.
Sheila Little, Irene McCreath and Nancy White had contributed equipment for games with the Ruralympics in mind. Hoopla, curling, beanbag throwing, hockey dribbling and the memory game were tried out by teams. There were table top games available too.
Susie was the timekeeper and kept everyone on schedule with a handbell. This proved to be good fun. After the exertions of the games, refreshments provided by Alison Metcalfe and Betty Peacock were most welcome. Everyone enjoyed them in the lounge over a good catch up.
The competitions were very well supported and judged by Pennies for Friendship. The results were as follows:
Christmas card - 1. Isobel Cuthbertson, 2. Susie Seed and Nancy White, 3. Isabel McBeth.
Pretty plate - 1. Isobel Cuthbertson, 2. Dorothy Faulds and Nancy White, 3. Susie Seed.
Flower of the Month - 1. Irene McCreath, 2. Nancy White, 3. Isobel Cuthbertson.
Irene thanked everyone for their contribution to the meeting. The evening had provided a great variety of activities and everyone enjoyed catching up in the new year. When everything was tidied up, folk headed for home through a rainy night with lots of water on the roads.
