Consultation report on the closure of Carsphairn Primary School published

Following a consultation in 2025, Dumfries and Galloway Council have published the results of the consultation on the proposal to discontinue education at Carsphairn Primary School and Nursery.

The school has been mothballed since 2019 and a new community group Carsphairn Learning and Development Committee (CLaDC) have been working with the Council to enable the community to take ownership of the school and bring it back into use.

The 26 page report (plus appendices) outlines the reasons for the Council’s recommendation that the school be permanently closed from 27th April 2026 and includes the Council’s undertaking to transfer the ownership of the building to the community in a timely manner.

The final decision will be made by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing Committee at their meeting on Tuesday 17 February 2026.

A copy of the full report is available to read at Dalry Library (open Tue 2-5pm and Fri 12noon-5pm), or click on the link below to view it online.
