Carsphairn SWI’s 90th Birthday Party

On 4th December 2025 members and friends of Carsphairn SWI gathered in Lagwyne Hall to celebrate the Institute’s 90th birthday.

The hall looked resplendent. Balloons, lights, streamers and Christmas trees added to the beautifully and carefully set tables. The evening encompassed both birthday and festive revelries. What a party it was! Friends from other Stewartry Institutes joined the celebration. Melissa Ade welcomed everyone. Christine shared messages and cards from well-wishers within the Stewartry and further afield. Then everyone was invited to enjoy the buffet provided by members and friends which was a real feast of variety, flavour and colour. Lots of laughter and catching up went on over the meal. Liquid refreshments including mulled festive drinks were served throughout.

Melissa invited Mary McMorran, a well-known and past member of Carsphairn SWI to cut the 90th Birthday Cake after everyone had sung ‘Happy Birthday’. Tea and coffee were served along with the cake. The evening then took another welcome turn. Aaron Jones entertained everyone with his voice and guitar. Aaran played some traditional folk songs, some well-known and a couple less so. He explained the origin of his music and included everyone by explaining the choruses and encouraging everybody to join in. The atmosphere in the hall was poignant as everyone listened and took part. Aaran even played a Christmas favourite (theirs not his maybe?).

As the festivities drew to a natural close, Irene McCreath thanked everyone for being there on the evening and for taking part and contributing to the celebration in any way. Everyone was gifted a coaster to remind them of the special birthday. As coats were put on and farewells were made people reflected on what a memorable party it had been. Carsphairn SWI is vibrant and looking to the future with enthusiasm, commitment and excitement.
