Glenkens and District Community Action Plan 2026 Refresh Local Research Report
Commissioned by the Glenkens Community and Arts Trust for the Glenkens and District Community Action Plan Steering Group, funded by the Glenkens and District Trust. Written by Becca Nelson.
The Glenkens and District Community Action Plan (CAP) was published in 2020, after 18 months of community engagement work. In 2023, the Glenkens Land Use Vision was adopted as an addendum to the CAP, in light of the rapid change in the landscapes around us. The CAP determines funding allocations by the Glenkens and District Trust.
In 2025, the Community Action Plan Steering Group (CAPSG) determined that it was time to update and refresh the CAP, to ensure that it continues to express community priorities for 2026 and beyond. Additionally, further consultation has been taking place in Glenkens communities to provide the evidence base for Local Place Plans, which will be taken into account in the preparation Dumfries and Galloway Council's Local Development Plan 3 if they have either been registered by the council or have been through formal consultation by the end of February 2026.
The Glenkens and District Trust provided funds for the Glenkens Community and Arts Trust to engage a local researcher to pull together the available local inputs (including Local Place Plan data, land use maps and regional strategies) and engage with local organisations in order to create an initial local research report which will then feed into a tender for an external researcher to draw together all the inputs into a draft refreshed Glenkens Community Action Plan. The refreshed CAP will then go out for review by the community before being finalised once feedback has been incorporated.
This report is the first stage, local research report for this process.
