The ‘Wonders of Wind’ event gives a new way to connect to the Galloway Landscape
On 7th August, an intrepid gang of more than 40 people visited the Glaisters Bridge site near Corsock to witness an eclectic visual and audio event which sought to celebrate the Wind – acting as a medium for creative energy and travel, and its influence on local people and species.
The event formed part of a new programme of work at Glaisters Bridge, an innovative site where landowner Foresight Group, supported by EJD Forestry is working with a range of community groups to add local value.
Featuring Helmut Lemke and Alex Rigg in a variety of roles, the event gave attendees an opportunity to see wind in a variety of new ways!
The event was overseen by Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands and Crichton Carbon Centre, working in partnership. Dr Kerry Morrison, embedded artist and creative producer with the Crichton Carbon Centre was the event co-ordinator. Looking back at the event, Kerry said:
“It was great to see so many people turn up for this unique performance. The spectacle of more than 40 people walking down to the peatland site, in a single file procession led by Helmut, took my breath away; as did the whole performance. Spectacular.”
McNabb Laurie, Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands Manager, added:
“This felt like an event that could only happen in Dumfries & Galloway. The performances challenged us to think differently about natural processes and the wind which rushes through our landscape. The weather during the event was eerily perfect, with wind and sun interchanging through the evening, almost as if nature was part of the cast… Thank you to everyone involved!”
