Skills were sharpened at Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland’s Scything Events
Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland, near Corsock, is a result of an innovative partnership between the landowner, Foresight Group, and the community. A series of introductory scything events were recently held, giving attendees the chance to learn about scything, how to look after the scythe and related skills.
The three events were fully booked and received positive feedback from attendees. As well as helping with meadow management, this was a chance to connect with the Community Woodland in a new way.
Each session was led by Joe Seed, working on behalf of Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands (www.dgwoodlands.org.uk), and scything enthusiast Alex Rigg.
Looking back at the events, Joe Seed said:
“It was great to have everyone on site getting to grips with the scythe, we are particularly happy to have started work on the wildflower meadow!”
