Public exhibitions announced for proposed Dalmacallan Wind Farm

PRESS RELEASE FROM FORCE 9 ENERGY & VESTAS

Members of the public are being invited to share their views on early-stage proposals for a new onshore wind farm planned for a site located approximately four kilometres to the south of the village of Moniaive and just under 20 kilometres north west of Dumfries.

Vestas Wind Turbine Prototype

Vestas, a global leader in sustainable energy solutions, together with its UK development partner Force 9 Energy, has announced the first round of public exhibitions for the proposed project.

Two layout options are being considered for the proposed development. The first indicative layout includes up to 17 turbines at up to 180m to blade tip, with a total installed capacity of up to 76.5MW. The second proposes 16 turbines at up to 200m, which would enable a higher installed capacity of up to 115.2MW. Lying centrally within the Dumfries & Galloway Council area, it would generate enough electricity to power around 100,000* homes per year.

Two local public exhibitions will provide the opportunity for people to view the initial designs and speak to the project team. The first exhibition will take place on Wednesday 29th October at the following times and locations:

  • Balmaclellan Village Hall, Castle Douglas, DG7 3QE, 1pm – 4pm

  • Glencairn Memorial Institute, 3 Chapel St Moniaive, Thornhill, DG3 4EJ, 5.30pm - 9pm

Andrew Smith, Head of Planning and Development at Force 9 Energy, said:

We are committed to working closely with the local community throughout every stage of the planning process. This exhibition is an opportunity for local residents to learn more about the proposal, ask questions, and share their views. We’re keen to ensure that the project delivers meaningful benefits to the people who live and work near the proposed wind farm.

"We understand that the scale of a wind farm is an important consideration for the local community. The proposed project may include up to 17 turbines, and their placement, design and visual impact will be carefully planned in consultation with local residents, environmental experts and planning authorities.”

A Scoping Report setting out the work Vestas and Force 9 Energy will do to assess environmental impact will be submitted to the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit (ECU) in October 2025.

Anyone unable to attend the in-person exhibitions can view the exhibition information on the Dalmacallan Wind Farm website - dalmacallan.vestaswindprojects.com.

*Please note that this figure is based on 16 turbines with an installed capacity of 99.2 MW at a site derived capacity factor of 40.6% capacity and assuming 3,449 is the average UK household electricity consumption in kW hours (based on most recent statistics from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Dec 2024 (DESNZ) in kW hours.
