Glenkens and District Trust celebrates seven years and £1.5 million of community benefit funding
A celebration event is being held at Dalry Town Hall on Thursday 26th February to recognise the difference that the Glenkens & District Community Fund has made in supporting the hard work of volunteers and organisations over the last seven years. In that time, the fund has distributed more than £1.5 million in grants, which has in turn unlocked a further £3.25 million in investment into the area from other funders.
From funding science workshops for schoolchildren to fixing the roofs on village halls, helping local producers to find an outlet for their produce, or awarding financial grants for Glenkens residents to help them to gain work-related qualifications, the fund has had a huge impact on Glenkens communities and residents of all ages.
“GDT's financial support has been absolutely vital in enabling us to have the confidence to experiment with our business model and continue to deliver on our twin key aims of providing social cohesions and employment opportunities within New Galloway.” New Galloway Community Enterprises
“The award from Glenkens & District Trust has allowed us to bring together a number of different partners and try some really innovative things, delivering social, economic, and ecological benefits on our local woodlands. Our project has attracted attention on a regional and national stage, with parts of it being replicated further afield.” D&G Woodlands
The Glenkens & District Community Fund distributes funds provided by Blackcraig and Windy Rig Wind Farms. Decisions on grant awards are made by the Glenkens & District Trust Board, which is made up of residents drawn from across the fund area, all of whom give their time as volunteers. Fund administration is carried out by Foundation Scotland, whose staff assess applications and support applicants through the process.
All are invited to drop in to Dalry Town Hall between 4pm and 7.30pm to celebrate the huge range of projects and initiatives that have been supported or made possible by the Glenkens & District Community Fund.
