Funding made available to support Community Council resilience plans
The National Centre for Resilience (NCR) have launched a new fund to ensure that Community Councils can develop resilience plans to combat the effects of natural hazards such as flooding, wild fires and storms.
Loch Ken Trust have begun working with local groups and Community Councils on a new project to build resilience in remote rural communities, but due to funding constraints, not all communities who expressed an interest in the pilot scheme were able to take part.
The new funding will allow further Community Councils to join the pilot project and receive support in developing their resilience plans alongside those already taking part, which are:
Community Councils
Balmaclellan
Balmaghie
Dalry
Community Spaces
Balmaclellan Village Hall
New Galloway Town Hall
Parton Village Hall
The aim of the project is to bridge the gap between communities and resilience professionals, fostering self-reliance in the face of a changing climate and its associated natural hazards.
Dedicated workshops for all participants will take place in November/December and will include support for Community Councils to update their resilience plans into the new format just released by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Barney Fryer (Loch Ken Trust manager) said:
“We would like to thank all of the Community Councils who expressed an interest in taking part and we are sorry that we couldn’t say yes to everyone.
The numbers were always limited by the funding available. If any of the other Community Councils are interested in applying to the new fund, to cover the costs of delivering the same support to them, we would be happy to help with the application process.”
The application deadline is 31st January 2024, see link for details or download guidance and application forms.
