John Muir works at Local Initiatives New Galloway (LING), making sure that projects are both sustainably run and sustainable for the long term.
As well as regular activities and events in the Town Hall and surroundings, LING operates a well-used Community Larder which diverts still-fresh food from landfill, to produce free meals for the community and to stock a community food bank.
“I think that sense of community in the Glenkens is just massive and everybody trying to work together. Seeing it now from a professional point of view, now working in this area as well, it’s phenomenal the amount of stuff in the community rolling their sleeves up and making things happen for themselves is I think second to none.”
