Watson Birds Needs You
After 15 years leading the Watson Birds project, having reached the age of 80 I would like to hand over to new folk, giving the local project new life and impetus.
What is done in the future is up to new volunteers. I hope you will join and add your ideas and lead on activities. Let me know by giving me a call on 07803 595 267 or by emailing roger.dodin@btinternet.com
There are lots of opportunities to promote nature and the arts in the Glenkens through Watson Birds.
Running activities with young people at school and in the community
Leading guided walks and trips around our two trails
Holding talks about our local environment
Putting on musical or other events in the villages
Reviving the Watson Raptor Science Prize under new leadership by an outstanding scientist
Installing bird boxes in all of the villages
Refreshing the permanent exhibition of Donald Watson paintings at the CatStrand
Selling cards, posters and books at the CatStrand and elsewhere
Making sure that we have brochures advertising the project in the local shops
And the many ideas you will undoubtedly have
The book of essays about Donald and his work, written by Chris Rollie, John Threlfall, Lousie and Vanessa Watson, Des Thompson, Colin Galbraith and myself, is currently with a publisher. I hope that will be released later this year with events in the Glenkens and at the Scottish Ornithological Society’s Watson Gallery in East Lothian.
I suggest that Watson Birds remains a component project of the Glenkens Community and Arts Trust as this has provided a good home and excellent support since the outset.
I hope to hear from many folk to add to the lively activities we have in the Glenkens.
