Wassail with SongWave this Winter!
Audiences in the Stewartry are in for a treat as SongWave Community Choir brings their Winter concert series, ‘Wassail! Songs for the Turning of the Year’ to the region.
Led by musical director Kate Howard, SongWave is a Castle Douglas based community choir which is known for its joyous renditions of a varied repertoire of songs. This winter, the choir will focus on the Wassail which is the Anglo-Saxon word to wish someone 'Good Health’.
Songwave will perform carols covering the British Isles and many centuries - from a 14th Century Hogmanay song 'Hagman Heigh' to West Yorkshire to Sheffield pub carols, a rediscovered bell carol from Barnsley and luck visiting songs from Somerset – SongWave will bring you good cheer and plenty of good luck for the coming year ahead.
“We're thrilled to bring Wassail! to the Stewartry," said the choir's chairperson Jo Gallant. "The choir has been working hard to prepare for these concerts, and we're excited to share our passion for music with the local community”.
The choir's three concerts will take place at Twynholm Village Hall on Friday 13th December from 7pm, Kirkpatrick Durham Village Hall on Saturday 14th December from 4pm and New Galloway Town Hall on Sunday 15th December from 4pm.
