Opportunity to learn mental health first aid on free 2 day course

As part of the 2022 Dumfries and Galloway Community Mental Health and Wellbeing fund, Dalry Community Council commissioned a Mental Health & Wellbeing survey across the local residents of the Glenkens. As part of the ongoing work alongside this survey, Dalry Community Council are pleased to have secured funding for a two day Scottish Mental Health First Aid training course to be delivered by Emcare Solutions and Stewart First Aid Training.

This course offers attendees an opportunity to explore some of the key mental health issues, while learning what help they could provide in a first aid situation. The two day course covers:

• Attitudes to mental health issues

• The impact of alcohol and drugs on mental health

• Suicide prevention and the importance of good listening skills

• Understanding anxiety and how to offer first aid to someone experiencing anxiety

• Understanding depression and how to offer mental health first aid to someone experiencing depression

• Understanding psychosis and how to offer first aid to someone experiencing a psychotic episode

Dalry Community Council hope that, by offering this opportunity to local businesses, organisations and individual residents, participants can reach a greater understanding of mental health in their community, empowering people to offer help should someone be in need of support.

The course is taking place in the Glenkens Community Centre (Kirkland Street, Dalry) from 9.30pm to 4.30pm over two days, the 25th and 26th January 2024. Tea/coffee and snacks will be provided but the organisers ask that attendees to bring their own lunch as catering is not provided.

The course is open to those living in the Glenkens, where a mix of free spaces for individuals or non-profit organisations and paid places for medium and larger businesses are available. The cost will depend on the size of your organisation or business (maximum cost £128.00 pp).
