Monitoring water quality with the Glenkens Community Spaces Network

Free Riverwoods film screening and river sampling activity: April's Glenkens Community Spaces Network Citizen Science Event

Riverwoods screening

Watch Riverwoods, a spectacular film from SCOTLAND: The Big Picture, to learn more about the importance of water quality and riparian trees to our river-based wildlife, and collect a kit to sample water quality near you as part of the Big River Watch. This is a free event, funded by the Galloway Glens legacy fund, but booking is essential!

Our beautiful and vital rivers are in crisis, but every bit of data about their health helps organisations to better plan how to restore and protect them.

Riverwoods is a spectacular and compelling story of Scotland’s Atlantic salmon - a fish that is the angler’s ultimate prize and a key building block in a complex forest ecosystem.

The feature-length documentary filmed and produced by rewilding charity SCOTLAND: The Big Picture, shows how Scotland’s rivers have been greatly diminished but crucially, how they could be reborn through a shared vision of restoration and recovery.

The Big River Watch is a national citizen science campaign - Niki Inglis will brief attendees on the initiative and distribute water testing kits to pre-registered attendees to enable them to measure the health of their own local waterways as part of the 2026 River Watch. Come along and find out how you can make a difference!

Thanks to the Galloway Glens Legacy Fund for supporting this event, which is one of a series of talks and activities taking part at community buildings across the Glenkens as part of the International Year of Volunteering for Sustainability, organised by the Glenkens Community Spaces Network.
