Have your say on the future of Dalry Secondary School

Local schools affect all our communities in a myriad of ways, from providing a focus for community cohesion, to engendering the feeling that our communities are thriving and have a bright future. This survey is not just for parents, but for everyone in the Glenkens!

The survey came about as a result of the meeting held on Tuesday 5th December, between John Thin (Head of Education - Education and Learning Directorate, Dumfries and Galloway Council), Dalry Schools Parent Council and members of the community, to discuss the future of Dalry Secondary School.

The falling school roll at Dalry Secondary has presented problems for Dumfries and Galloway Council in delivering Curriculum for Excellence outcomes and having met with pupils and parents, the Council are now asking stakeholders within the wider community to share their view on five options for Dalry Secondary School, namely:

  1. Continue as is with no change (S1-4)

  2. Reduce stages of education to S1 - S2 only

  3. Move to all-through (Nursery - S2)

  4. Secondary closure and re-alignment

  5. Nursery - S4 all through school

Details of how each of these option may look in practice, can be found in the survey which is open from 9am on Monday 11th December 2023 until 9am on Monday 8th January 2024. You can respond as an individual or an organisation and although the survey “does not currently form part of any statutory consultation process in relation to potential changes impacting Dalry Secondary School … responses may be retained by Dumfries and Galloway Council for use in any statutory consultation under The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 as amended.”

You can access the survey using the link here and Dalry Schools Parent Council ask that it be shared as widely as possible to ensure anyone with links to the Glenkens and an interest in the future health and wellbeing of its communities can have an input.
