Fancy becoming a community bus driver?

Looking for an adventure in 2024? Why not join the fantastic team of drivers at Galloway Community Transport!

Galloway Community Transport (GCT) provides vital transport for individuals and groups across Galloway, including patient transport, local school bus services as well as minibus hire for groups and organisations.

Occasional excursions also provide opportunities for travel and socialising. Forthcoming trips include taking school children to their swimming lessons in Castle Douglas, a research trip to the Isle of Arran and transport to local social events. Driving is interesting and varied.

GCT drivers are passionate about their role. One driver said:

’It’s a privilege to see the enjoyment of young people going to events and activities that in a big town or city would be taken for granted. It’s a real pleasure.’’

GCT patient transport drivers generously use their own vehicles to take patients to appointments and their mileage expenses are reimbursed. Doing this, GCT drivers provide not only transport for people who need it most, they are sometimes the only social contact that person may have during the week. One patient said recently:

"The service is an absolute lifesaver, and the conversation and laughter we have on the way make it a lovely journey."

GCT simply would not be able to operate without the generous contribution made by the dedicated team of volunteer drivers. Driving for GCT can offer the opportunity to visit new places and meet new people, and also the chance to see what some of our local community projects involve. New volunteers are always welcome and much needed. Are you tempted?!

If anyone would like to be part of the team, GCT would be delighted to hear from them. Please get in touch with Jon and Sue at the CatStrand on gct@catstrand.com or see www.gallowaycommunitytransport.org for more information.

Galloway Community Transport is supported by the Glenkens & District Community Fund, D&G Council and Scottish Government schemes.

Update on the new GCT Electric Minibus

We hope to have the new bus in service very soon. The bus supplier underwent some organisational changes shortly shortly after it was delivered to us, which resulted in their engineers being unable to come and perform an essential technical update on the vehicle.

This situation has now been resolved, and we hope to have the bus out in use very soon!
