Baking and recipe share at Carsphairn SWI

Melissa Ade, Vice President welcomed everyone to the meeting on 21st March, 2024. The gathering took a different format this month as all members were involved in providing the refreshments. It had been agreed that everyone would bake something to be tasted and bring the recipe along.

Before the treats were shared the business part of the meeting took place. This went very well and with less time pressure, there were lots of contributions from members with reflective observations and ideas for the future. There were reports from the Ruralympics, Short Mat Bowling competition and the Spring Show. Lots of helpful discussion took place around these topics. Forthcoming events were highlighted. Members have the opportunity to opt in to SWI line dancing, rambling, Bingo, and a jewellery demonstration. Closer to home the Heritage Centre AGM and Easter Egg Extravaganza are coming soon.

At this point Isabel and Maggie organised the tea and everyone shared their baking contributions and recipes. There was an amazing spread of treats to sample. Members enjoyed catching up while tasting a range of different cakes and biscuits. Judy and Maggie kindly judged the competitions between them. The results were as follows:-

  • Child’s cardigan - 1. Susie Seed 2. Heather Fairgreaves.

  • Easter biscuits - 1. Judy Firth 2. Nancy White 3. Sheila Little.

  • Flower of the month - 1. Lavinia Morris 2. Susie Seed 3. Maggie Phillips.

The raffle was then drawn and Melissa thanked Isabel and Maggie for organising the tea and the raffle prizes. Members had enjoyed having a bit more time for the business part of the meeting and many comments and suggestions were contributed. Everyone headed home having shared lots of fun, food and friendship and some carrying wee goody bags.
