The Peat Bog Experience is a unique blend of creating a Bog Symphony and Stories. The Bog Symphony is a collective sound work rooted in the deep time of an upland peat bog above the Black Water of Dee, feeding in to Loch Ken.
Twelve participants will walk the bog area using their phones as instruments. We have designed an app that reads the visuals and atmospherics captured by the camera on the phone, this gathers data including vegetation, light, pressure and temperature. There metrics are then used to calculate different geological layers: Mesolithic sub-bass felt in the body, Iron Age drone, the bright shimmer of living Sphagnum.
When the twelve voices are layered together, they form a stratigraphic core — the exploratory sound of 8,000 years played in a few minutes of capture which will be played through sound system.
Storyteller Anne Errington will be telling tales from a fascinating Peat Bog Installation which the audience will help to construct. The day will be a celebration and creative experience of exploring the world and possibilities of the Peat Bog.
