The origins of the Bruce / Balliol conflict may have origins in the family feuds of the Lords of Galloway and it reached its apogee in the periods now known as the Scottish War of Independence between 1286 and 1356.
As our locality was firmly in the Balliol camp and was central to many of the events of the time, perhaps the title of a ‘Scottish Civil War’ would be more appropriate?
