We are in WW1 territory in Yorkshire for The Choral, written by Alan Bennett.
Ralph Fiennes plays Dr Guthrie, a choir master hired by desperate locals in 1916. Many men are away at war, awaiting conscription or already dead. The remaining choir members long for normalcy amongst this confusion but are in need of young men to stage the next performance.
Having spent years in Germany, and being secretly gay, Dr Guthrie is a divisive choice for the Yorkshire town. However, he must reach out in unlikely places to find his recruits and bring the town back together.
