An evening of music, song and recitations in celebration of the poetry of the late Tommy Edgar MBE and the rich history of music in the Glenkens led by Brian Edgar with special guest Jo Miller.
Tommy was a farmer in Dalry but was also very well known as a musician with his dance band 'The Starry Nights' and also as a talented poet. His poetry, much like Burns, was usually written spontaneously about a funny incident he'd witnessed or story that he had heard. Tommy's son Brian with a few special guests will be reciting some of his favourites.
Dr. Jo Miller was brought up in Dalry and played music from an early age. She went on to study music at university and then taught traditional music at the RSAMD in Glasgow. In 2017 Jo received the Hamish Henderson award for services to traditional music at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards. As part of her university studies she carried out extensive research on the history of music making in the Glenkens and she will be performing some of the traditional tunes and songs from the area during the evening.
