No news is good news. Or is it?

The Glenkens Gazette is a member of Scottish Beacon, a platform created to raise the voices of hyper local publications like the Gazette.

Without news, how would you know about the issues affecting your community? How would you know what your local authorities were planning or whether they were acting legally? How would you know if your local environment was being impacted and by whom? And how would you know about the positive changes in your area, the success stories?

As long as we have a local independent news source in our area, our community can stay informed – but sadly, far too many news providers are struggling to keep going.

No news is bad news.

We're proud members of the award-winning Scottish Beacon local news collaborative – a collective of 24 independent local news providers right across Scotland. We want to strengthen local news by amplifying stories and provided trusted, vital information written by people who know their communities best.

Together, we're joining the ‘No News is Bad News’ campaign, and in June as part of Indie News Week, The Scottish Beacon is hosting a one day event packed with interesting conversations, lively debates and workshops. Open to all.
