Balmaclellan residents: have your say!
Balmaclellan’s Local Place Plan will offer a once-in-a-decade opportunity for residents to express their views on how the village should develop, what works well, what is missing, and what could be improved. Pop into the shop or the Village Hall to find out more!
Planning for Balmaclellan's future
Balmaclellan residents will be invited to share their views on life in the village as part of the consultation process for a Local Place Plan which will take place over coming months. Surveys can either be completed online (links below) or on printed forms available in the shop and in the Village Hall.
Balmaclellan Community Council is leading on the plan process, which will focus on the entire community council area.
How to get involved
The first phase of this consultation commenced in November, and will continue until the end of January. As well as an afternoon/evening drop-in event at the Village Hall, residents are invited to feed in to the initial consultation by completing two online questionnaires. The first focuses specifically on Balmaclellan, asking residents and those with a connection to Balmaclellan to prioritise projects suggested in previous consultations, or new projects.

The second is the Place Standard Assessment, which is being used across Scotland and helps to give a snapshot of what is working well and what could be improved. This can be completed here: https://www.ourplace.scot/tool/start/balmaclellan.
Instructions and printed forms are also available in the Village Hall and Village Shop.
What are Local Place Plans?
Local Place Plans offer communities the opportunity to develop proposals for their local area, expressing their aspirations and ambitions for future change. They were introduced by the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019, which contains a new right for communities to produce their own plans as part of the new Scottish planning system.
They contain the community’s proposals for the development and use of land, and provide a new opportunity for residents to feed into the planning system with ideas and proposals. Balmaclellan's Local Place Plan will help to inform the development of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s new Local Development Plan (LDP3), which will be in place for a decade.
